It began one summer evening at a restaurant in Manhattan, when I met up with two close friends and fellow Hamilton College students to discuss the idea of starting our own campus publication once we returned to school in September. We shared a common interest for fashion and photography, and we imagined creating a magazine that featured student photography, creative articles, and op-eds, all focused on making real-world fashion accessible to the college student in the chilly climate of Central New York. As a rising senior, I thought this magazine would be a way I could proudly leave my mark on campus.
Fast forward to my senior year, and I am serving as the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of a new campus publication, called Signature Style. After presenting the publication’s proposed constitution and bylaws, the structure of the organization, and yearly budget, the magazine was approved and granted a budget by the Hamilton Media Board of college faculty and fellow students. I created an 8-person executive board of student positions and I oversaw and led my team in all steps of the seasonal issue’s editing, production, printing, and distribution, and maintained correspondence with the Hamilton Media Board. I am very proud that I was able to select and train many of the club’s leaders that took over when I graduated and that the club and publication is still thriving today. Through this experience, I became fascinated with publishing and developed a strong interest in pursuing editorial work after college.
Since my days at Hamilton College, I relocated from New York to the San Francisco Bay Area and completed a five-month editorial internship at Sierra Magazine and worked at 7x7 and Sunset magazines. I have also worked as a freelance writer, creating content for Go Overseas and Censia. From these jobs, I have experience writing shorter- and longer-form pieces on topics including travel, environment, lifestyle, and technology, in addition to fact-checking, copyediting, and reporting.
In the time since these earlier experiences, I have spent much of my career working at Chronicle Books, where I currently use my writing and editing skills to create marketing content as an E-Commerce Manager. Passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences, I strive to align innovative marketing and merchandising solutions with the company’s mission of creating and sharing distinctive books and gifts. My goal has always been to produce content that is engaging, accurate, and thought-provoking.
